…of a Toddler!
All is quiet as I write this morning. Shortcake, the family corgi, is still nestled in her crate. “Bubsy”, my grandson, is still recharging for all the adventures of this new day. And mom and dad (my daughter and SIL) are still snuggled in, taking advantage of a quiet home.
They have moved to KS from CO and I’ve had the wonderful privilege of coming alongside for this life change. It’s been an incredible trip!
Yesterday, Bubsy and I went out exploring so mom and dad could attend to all the duties of setting up home without an almost 2 year underfoot…..
The day was glorious – blue skies, gentle cool breeze and lots and lots to discover!
He led, I followed. Sometimes we ran. Sometimes we walked. And sometimes we just stood in stillness. We sat and watched. We laughed, kicked balls and rolled on the ground. We found small broken branches for drumsticks and picked up a single kernel of corn for the ducks. We pushed a treasured fire truck down a ramp several times before taking off for the “weeee!” slide. But the diversion of curiosity aborted our mission. Body rolling on partially deflated rubber balls became the activity of choice.
He and I laughed together – his infectious giggle making my heart swell. His utterly innocent joy permeating every movement, his childlike curiosity igniting my own….
Oh, to live life with the abandonment of a toddler’s zest for the everyday discoveries. Nothing is too small to deserve attention. Time is not a constraining factor when it comes to a day full of “new.” A smile, a giggle, a belly laugh are freely given when warranted without any thought of appropriateness. An honest emotion of joy exhibited and if you’re lucky, you’ll be privileged to participate.
Bubsy, thank you for today. Thank you for allowing Nana to follow in YOUR footsteps and to be an observer of YOUR ways. You have taught me much, reminded me how best to approach the remainder of 2025.
May we all wander, discover, be curious and live each day with the joy and exuberance of a toddler!
